Family Based Nutrition Counseling

Family support and understanding of nutritional and healthful interventions is very important. Especially in the treatment of children and eating disorders. I work with the family to help implement nutrition services, provide families with strategies for support and education on how each member of the family can be successful and supportive.

Eating disorders/disordered eating are challenging. Mealtimes can be chaotic, stressful and anxiety producing. Support and guidance in those moments might be just what you need to help you be successful in your recovery. In this session, we will have a meal together that may be challenging you, to make it an enjoyable experience.

What People Are Saying About Kate:

“As the mother of a client with an eating disorder, I have had the very unique perspective of watching Kate’s work unfold in front of me. From day one of treatment, she was able to connect and form the bond required to make it a success. She makes sessions fun and offers honest feedback that was truly unique to my daughter. While at the same time providing me coaching skills so I was able to learn how to help my daughter with recovery and to make sure our family aligned with the treatment team. To say I credit Kate with saving my daughter’s life is an understatement. My daughter truly looks forward to every session and brings back knowledge that we honestly didn’t know about nutrition and our bodies. Kate has given my daughter freedom to enjoy food, socialize again, and given her the skills to remove fear she associated for years with food. I have taken the same approach alongside of her and food no longer controls our moods and thoughts. I could write forever and it will never be enough, I’m sitting here crying because I know without Kate we wouldn’t be where we are, how can I put that into words? Kate saved her life, bottom line, she saved her life and the rest of mine I will be grateful.”

- Taylor, Mom and Family Based Nutrition Therapy Client

“I started working with Kate when the feelings of shame I had about my body, eating, and exercise consumed my life. Since working with Kate, I have started to better understand what I and my body want and need. She has helped me accept and love myself for all that I am. She has helped me realize that I am more than my weight, and always encourages me to reach my full potential. In my most recent session, I told Kate, I thought food was my biggest issue but now that I’m practicing better habits and actually unpacking the issues behind it, getting to the root of it, instead of trying to control it, I feel so much better. I am making so many healthy changes for myself and I am actually enjoying exercising for the first time ever.”

“I am working with Kate on my recovery from two eating disorders and she is NOT like other dietitians. I feel like I have made so much progress with her. I sometimes get stuck when it comes to implementing the meals and snacks I need to fuel my body, so Kate offers meal support sessions. Last week, we had a fear food of mine, penne vodka and garlic bread. I used to love that meal before dieting stole it from me. Kate sat with me while we had supportive conversation and discussed why all foods can fit into our nutritional plan, how no food is off limits. It was amazing and I ate the whole meal, something I haven’t done very often in my recovery so far. I feel so supported and heard by her, that challenging these ED thoughts aren’t so scary with her by my side.”
