“Food can’t be your medicine when food is your enemy”

-Christy Harrison, RDN, Food Psych Podcast Ep. 155

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer weight loss services?

No. Intentional weight loss does not align with the evidence-based philosophies and values I practice by. Diets don’t work. The research supports well-being over weight loss. Most of Kate’s clients seek her after years of chronic dieting that didn’t work. Diets are the problem, not you.

Are you contracted with my insurance? How much are sessions?

Kate is contracted through Highmark / Blue Cross Blue Shield. (Federal BCBS, Anthem, Empire, Independence) Each plan is different and not all plans cover sessions with a Registered Dietitian. In order to book a visit with Kate, you must self verify your insurance benefits. Kate can provide you a script of what questions to ask your healthcare plan. Outside of Highmark/BCBS, Kate accepts private payments through cash/card/HSA/FSA or check.

Standard Fee Schedule:

Initial 60 minute session: $160 || Initial 90 minute session: $240

Kate’s Nutrition Philosophy:

Kate Conklin is a proud non-diet dietitian, body liberationist and social justice advocate. Her work focuses on self care, physical and mental wellbeing, body image and acceptance work. Kate believes all bodies are good bodies, and every body deserves comprehensive and individualized care.

Working from a weight-inclusive approach, utilizing Health At Every Size(R) and Intuitive Eating, Kate helps you to heal from diet mentality and truly take care of yourself. No matter your size, health status, medical conditions or diagnoses, Kate can help you find peace with nutrition and your body, without dieting and obsession. Kate believes that focusing on identifying the root of the nutritional concern is important to lasting success. Kate also stresses shifting the focus from weight and appearance to health enhancing behaviors and acceptance.

In the initial sessions, Kate does an intake and asks many questions. She basically ‘wants to know what you know’. Exploration of your relationship with food, exercise (movement) and your thoughts about your body, getting curious about your goals, and expanding your thoughts about what defines health. Identifying your stressors and barriers around food preoccupation. In follow up sessions, Kate provides education, strategies for success, celebration for your wins, and processing of your food related emotions. Kate works to assess the nutritional and emotional status of our interventions, as well as your relationship with food and curiosity around health-enhancing behaviors.

The goal of Kate’s work is to help you reconnect with food and your body. In a culture that stresses such rigid expectations to dieting, exercising and body image, Kate allows you to come as you are, identify problem areas, and process through them using empathy, compassion and without judgement.

Any nutritional concern can benefit from this approach. From eating disorder recovery, to management of high blood pressure or diabetes, to just wanting to make better health choices.

And most importantly, your lived experience matters. I may be a nutrition ‘expert’, but YOU are the true expert on your body.
